New Delhi, Aug 19 (Agency) The Indian government on Thursday night urged all Indian nationals in Afghanistan requiring assistance to contact the Ministry of External Affairs’s Special Afghanistan Cell, to which additional phone numbers were added. The MEA spokesperson in a tweet said: “We urge all Indian nationals in Afghanistan requiring assistance to contact our Special Afghanistan Cell immediately, if not done so already.”
The Special Afghanistan Cell has been set up to coordinate repatriation and other requests from Afghanistan. On Tuesday flew back home its ambassador Rudrendra Tandon and staff from its embassy in Kabul after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan on Sunday. India has said it is committed to the safe return of all Indian nationals and will institute flight arrangements once Kabul airport is open for commercial operations.
