New Delhi, Jan 17 (Bureau) Severe cold wave conditions will continue to prevail over the plains of Northwest India for the next five days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday. Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh will continue to witness cold wave to severe cold wave conditions from 17-21 January, it said. Cold wave conditions are very likely to persist in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh on 17 and 18 January, over west Uttar Pradesh on 17, 20 and 21 January and over north Rajasthan during 19-21 January. The IMD further said that the minimum temperature over Northwest India is expected to increase by 2 degrees Celsius and over East India by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the next 2 days and no significant change thereafter.
No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over the rest parts of the country during the next 5 days, it added. It further predicted that dense to very dense fog and cold day to severe cold day conditions will continue to prevail over North India during the next 4-5 days. “Dense to very dense fog conditions very likely to prevail for a few hours in late night and morning over many parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh during 17th late night to 20th morning and in isolated pockets on 21st & 22nd January morning,” the IMD said. The parts of West and East Uttar Pradesh are also likely to witness dense to very dense fog conditions for a few hours during late night and morning on 17 January and isolated pockets for the subsequent 2-4 days. Uttarakhand will witness similar conditions during morning hours on the 17th & 18th January. According to IMD, dense fog conditions very likely to prevail in morning hours in isolated pockets of north Rajasthan during 17th-20th, over north Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 17th-19th, over Himachal Pradesh on 17th & 18th and over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha on 17th January.
“Cold day to severe cold day conditions very likely to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh during 17th-19th, in some parts of West Uttar Pradesh on 17th & 18th and in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh and northwest Madhya Pradesh on 17th January,” the IMD said. The cold day conditions are also likely to prevail in some isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar, West and East Uttar Pradesh, northwest Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan during 17th to 21st January.
