New Delhi, Jan 6 (Agency) Parts of Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are likely to witness cold to severe cold conditions with a minimum temperature below 10 degrees till January 8, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday here. The National Weather Forecasting Agency has also predicted dense to very dense fog over Northwest India for the next 2 days.
A fresh rainfall spell with thunderstorms and hailstorms is likely over Northwest and Central India from 8-10 January, it said. Due to a fresh Western Disturbance over Northwest India from 8 January, light isolated rainfall is likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Punjab, and Haryana among other Northwest regions. Light to moderate rainfall spell likely over south Peninsular India with isolated heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu during the next 5 days and over Kerala during next 2 days, the IMD said. According to IMD, dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail in night and morning hours in some parts of Punjab and isolated pockets of Haryana-Chandigarh during 6-8 January and Dense fog in isolated pockets for subsequent 3 days. “Dense to very dense fog conditions very likely to prevail for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets over West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on 07th January and dense fog in isolated pockets on 08th & 09th January,” the MeT department said.
“Dense fog conditions very likely to prevail for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh during 6-10 January; over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Madhya Pradesh, Bihar,Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura on 7-8 January, it added. IMD said, “Cold day to severe cold day conditions very likely to continue in some parts over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi on 6& 7 January and cold day conditions on 8 January. “Cold day to severe cold day conditions very likely to continue in some parts of East Rajasthan and isolated pockets of West Rajasthan on 6 and cold day conditions in isolated pockets of Rajasthan on 7 January,” it added. Minimum Temperatures recorded in last 24 hours were in the range of 6-9°C over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi; 10-12 °C over parts of West Uttar Pradesh and northwest Madhya Pradesh; 13-15°C over remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, interior Odisha and West Bengal. The weather department further said that there is no significant change in minimum temperatures over northwest India during next two days and a rise by 2-3 celsius degrees thereafter.
