Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall expected over western coastal region for next two days

New Delhi, Aug 28 (Agency) Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected over parts of western coastal region of the country for the next two days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday. According to IMD, “The deep depression over Saurashtra and Kachchh moved westward and lay centered at 0830 hours IST of today over the same region near latitude 23.7°N and longitude 69.7 °E, 50 km north-northwest of Bhuj (Gujarat), 100 km east-northeast of Naliya (Gujarat) and 290 km east-southeast of Karachi (Pakistan).”“It is likely to move slowly west-southwestwards across Saurashtra & Kachchh region and reach Saurashtra & Kachchh coast & adjoining areas of Pakistan and northeast Arabian Sea by tomorrow morning,” the IMD said.

Under this influence, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places of Saurashtra and Kachchh is expected on 29th and 30th August.Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Gujarat, South Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa till tomorrow.“Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely over the districts of South Gujarat Region and Saurashtra & Kutch during 28th-29th August. The squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is very likely to prevail along & off Gujarat coasts & adjoining Pakistan coasts and northeast & adjoining eastcentral Arabian Sea for the next two days,” the IMD said.

The weather department also predicted strong surface winds gusting to 60kmph along and off north Maharashtra coasts for today and tomorrow. According to IMD, light to moderate rainfall is also expected over Northwestern parts of the country including Delhi and the national capital region till 2nd September.Fishermen are advised not venture into Northeast and adjoining Eastcentral Arabian Sea and along & off Gujarat & adjoining Pakistan and north Maharashtra Coasts till 30th August.
