Hamirpur (HP), August 21(Agency) Hamirpur district has suffered a loss of about Rs 63.56 crores during the ongoing Monsoon season. Deputy Commissioner, Debasweta Banik told UNI on Sunday that while the department of public works had suffered a loss of Rs 33.15 crores, the loss suffered by the Jal Shakti Vibhag amounted to Rs 29.75 crore due to the rains. She said that the district suffered a loss of Rs 1.59 crore on last Saturday alone as it rained heavily in all parts of the district as a result roads were badly damaged and water supply schemes too received heavy damage. The Deputy Commissioner said that ten people had lost their lives in the district since the start of the monsoon season. While four people died due to road accidents, one lost his life due to a fall from a tree, two from electric current, two due to snake bites, and one from a building collapse.She said that during the monsoon season, three cattle had died and three were missing as they were washed away due to the rains.
Similarly, three shops and thirty-seven cow sheds had been badly damaged due to the rains. Meanwhile, there was bright sun shine in the district today and people got some respite from the heavy rains. People were seen basking in the sun and in rural areas of they were seen clearing weeds from their fields for getting good Kharif crops. Reports reaching here revealed that water has started receding and River Beas and its tributaries were flowing as usual. However, the department of Met has issued a yellow alert warning for the lower hills/plain areas of the state including Hamirpur in the coming four days. There will be traffic congestion; disruption in power and water supply and visibility will be poor, the department said.
