French President, Mauritius PM condole passing away of former PM Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, Dec 27 (Representative) Condolences poured in from foreign leaders and governments for former PM Manmohan Singh who passed away last night, with French President Emmanuel Macron and Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam offering tributes, as well as former Canadian PM Stephen Harper.French President Emmanuel Macron in a post on X said:“India has lost a great man, and France a true friend, in the person of Dr. Manmohan Singh. He had devoted his life to his country. Our thoughts are with his family and the people of India.”The Mauritius PM posted on his Facebook page: “It is with profound sadness that I have just learnt of the passing away of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India. I first met him when I was Leader of the opposition and he came to Mauritius on an official visit, prior to the 2005 election.Dr. Manmohan Singh was a gentleman politician and an eminent economist, who transformed India’s economic landscape. His humility, integrity & calmness will always be remembered.On behalf of the people of Mauritius & that of my Government, I present our sincere condolences to his family & close ones.Om Shanti.”Former Canadian PM Stephen Harper posted on X:“I am saddened to learn of the passing of my former colleague, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He was an individual of exceptional intelligence, integrity, and wisdom. Laureen and I wish to convey our condolences to all his family and friends.”

Former Maldives foreign minister Abdulla Shahid wrote on X:“Deeply saddened to hear of the demise of former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh.“I fondly recall his visit to the Maldives in 2011, where I, as then Speaker of Parliament, invited him to address a sitting of the Majlis – the first Head of State/Government to do so.“I also recall our interactions during my first tenure as Foreign Minister in 2007. I greatly benefited from his wisdom and knowledge. He was always a friend of the Maldives.“May he rest in peace, and may his family and loved ones be comforted by the lasting legacy he leaves.“My deepest condolences to the people and Government of India on this loss.”The Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov in a post on X wrote:“It is moment of poignant sorrow and grief for India and for Russia. Dr Manmohan Singh‘s contribution to our bilateral ties was immeasurable. His suave demeanor was always endearing as unquestionable was his expertise as an economist and his commitment to the progress of India.”
