New Delhi, June 6 (FN Agency) The Ministry of External Affairs on Monday called on Pakistan to focus on the safety, security and well-being of its minority communities instead of engaging in ‘alarmist propaganda’ and attempting to foment communal disharmony in India. The remarks were made in response to media queries regarding a tweet by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and statement by his Ministry of Foreign Affairs”We have noted statements and comments from Pakistan,” the ministry said in a statement. The MEA said, “The absurdity of a serial violator of minority rights commenting on the treatment of minorities in another nation is not lost on anyone. The world has been witness to the systemic persecution of minorities including Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and Ahmadiyyas by Pakistan.”It said that the Indian Government accords the highest respect to all religions. “This is quite unlike Pakistan where fanatics are eulogized and monuments built in their honour.”
“We call on Pakistan to focus on the safety, security and well-being of its minority communities instead of engaging in alarmist propaganda and attempting to foment communal disharmony in India,” the MEA statement said.On Sunday, the Sharif tweeted, “I condemn in strongest possible words hurtful comments of India’s BJP leader about our beloved Prophet (PBUH). Have said it repeatedly India under Modi is trampling religious freedoms & persecuting Muslims. World should take note & severely reprimand India.”Pakistan Foreign Ministry also said, “Strongly condemn and reject the totally unacceptable derogatory remarks by BJP officials about Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This has deeply hurt sentiments of Muslims in Pakistan, India & across the world”. The comments from Pakistan came after BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal used derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammad and his wife. Both leaders were suspended from the party on Sunday. Several Gulf countries, including Qatar, Kuwait, Iran and Saudi Arabia have strongly reacted to the statements by Sharma and Jindal and the envoys in these countries were asked for an explanation.
