Flight, train and surface transport services affected due to fog

Kolkata, Jan 6 (FN Agency) Air traffic, train and vehicular services wereaffected across this metropolitan city and suburban areas following thick foggy condition on Monday morning as visibility came down to below 50 mts, official sources said. The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (Kolkata) sourcessaid besides the arrival and departure of some 30 flights were delayedover two hours, three other flights could not land in the city airportand were diverted elsewhere following a thick blanket of fog envelopedthe city between 7 to 9 am, sources added. The unprecedented foggy condition in the city was witnessed for thefirst time in recent years due to western disturbances, weather officesources said.

The train services in Howrah and Sealdah stations were affected as theoffice and factory workers could not get on time owing to delayed oftrain timing for poor visibility, which prevented the driver to locate signalling points. Both Eastern Railway and Southeastern Railway’slong distance arrival trains could not make on time as traffic wasstranded for low visibility, sources added.Down Rajdhani Express, DN Jodhpur Epx, Dn Mumbai Mail via Allahabad, Dn Vibhuti Exp were delayed for nearly four in arrival at Howrahstation. The late arrival impacted the departure of the long distancetrains from Howrah sources added. The vehicular traffic was similarlyaffected on the highway in the first hours of the beginning of theweek.
