Chennai, Nov 30 (Representative) India’s latest Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-06), which was launched by PSLV-C54 on November 26, has started sending images. ISRO, in a tweet, said the first day images covering the Himalayan Region, Gujarat Kutch region and the Arabian Sea was received yesterday at NRSC, Shadnagar. The images were captured by the Ocean Color Monitor (OCM) and Sea Surface Temperature Monitor (SSTM) Sensors.
The images were released by ISRO Chairman Dr.S.Somanath in virtual mode. “First-day images received on Nov 29, 2022, at NRSC, Shadnagar cover the Himalayan region, Gujarat Kutch region, & the Arabian Sea”, the tweet said. “They are captured by the Ocean Color Monitor (OCM) & Sea Surface Temperature Monitor (SSTM) Sensors @isro,” it added. “The images were released by Chairman ISRO, S. Somanath in virtual mode, in the presence of Director, URSC Sankaran, and Director, NRSC Dr. Prakash Chauhan at IMGOES NRSC, Shadnagar”, EOS-06 was launched into a 740 km orbit along with eighg nanosatellites by PSLV-C54 from the First Launch Pad at the spaceport of Sriharikota on November 26. EOS-06 is the third generation satellite in the Oceansat series, which will provide continuity services of Oceansat-2 spacecraft with enhanced payload specification as well as application areas.
The payloads are Ocean Color Monitor (OCM-3), Sea Surface Temperature Monitor (SSTM), Ku-Band Scatterometer (SCAT-3) and ARGOS. The objectiveof this Mission was to ensure the data continuity of Ocean colour and wind vector data to sustain the operational applications. To improve the applications, some additional datasets such as Sea Surface Temperature and more number of bands in Optical region for florescence and in Infrared region for atmospheric corrections are accommodated. The objective was also to develop / improve related algorithms and data products to serve in well established application areas and to enhance the mission utility.
