New Delhi, Jan 16 (Representative) India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted that dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to persist over North India for the next 5 days.Parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are expected to witness dense to very dense fog from January 16 to 18 during the night and morning hours. Some areas may continue to witness these conditions from January 19 to 21 in the morning, the IMD said.“Dense to very dense fog conditions very likely to prevail for a few hours in some parts of Uttar Pradesh in the morning from January 16 to 18 and dense fog in isolated pockets for subsequent 3 days,” the IMD said. Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh are expected to have dense to very dense fog on January 17 and 18. Bihar and North Rajasthan will witness dense fog conditions from January 17-21, while Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim may experience it from January 17-20, it said.
Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to witness dense fog conditions from January 17-19. Dense fog conditions over Himachal Pradesh are expected on January 17 and 18, and over Jammu division, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha on January 17, it added. According to the IMD, cold day to severe cold day conditions are anticipated to continue over the plains of North India for the next 2 days, followed by a reduction. Some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh are expected to witness cold day to severe cold day conditions on January 16, and isolated pockets of Bihar on 16 and 17 January. The weather department further predicted cold wave to severe cold wave conditions over the plains of Northwest India for the next 5 days. “The minimum temperature is likely to rise by about 2 degrees Celsius over Northwest India during the next 2 days,” it said adding that a rise of about 2-4 degrees Celsius in minimum temperature is anticipated over East India during the next 4 days. The rest of the country is not expected to see significant changes in minimum temperatures over the next 5 days, the IMD said.
