Delhi records 3rd Monkeypox infection, national tally rises to 8

New Delhi, Aug 2 (Representative) A day after reporting the second infection of Monkeypox Virus (MVP) in a Nigerian man, another man from Africa has turned positive, officials said. The latest patient is the third case of the viral illness in the national capital. Delhi had reported the second MPV case on Monday evening in a 35-year-old Nigerian man while two more were under suspicion of contracting the disease. The new case is one of the suspects whose report arrived today and confirmed him with the MVP infection.

Meanwhile, a Nigerian lady has been found suspected of contracting the MVP as she compalined of fever and skin lesions. All the suspects and confirmed cases are admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital’s isolation facility and undergoing the treatment protocols. Besides, the 34-year-old West Delhi resident who was the first case of Monkeypox Virus in the national capital has recovered and was discharged from Lok Nayak Hospital on Tuesday, doctors confirmed. So far, three cases of Monkeypox have been detected in Delhi. Of them, one has recovered while two have active infection while two more are suspected of carrying the MVP disease.

Meanwhile, Kerala reported one more case today in a UAE returned putting the state’s tally of MVP cases to 5 including one death. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Parliament today that right cases have been detected in the country so far. “Eight cases of Monkeypox Virus have been detected in India so far. Five of them have a history of international travel (UAE) while the remaining three are found to be transmitted locally,” he said.
