New Delhi, Dec 21 (FN Agency) Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) aspirants protesting for an extra attempt in exam at Old Rajender Nagar in Delhi were detained by the police, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.Around 70 aspirants had assembled at Bada Bazaar, Old Rajender Nagar where they were conducting a protest and demanding an extra attempt as Covid compensatory extra attempt to clear the UPSC, stating the Covid-19 hampered their prospects in the last two years. A group of UPSC aspirants were protesting against the government for the grant of more attempts.
They had assembled at Bada Bazaar at about 7 pm yesterday with banners and posters, a senior police officer informed. The group had applied for permission to protest there but the same was rejected, police said. Upon receipt of information of the protest, police asked protesters to disperse and vacate the place, as the group became aggressive and started raising slogans against the government. Despite repeated attempts to assuage the protestors, they continued to hold ground and began a sit in protest, police said. The police called additional staff to tackle the situation and removed the protesters from the protest site. About 40 protestors were detained at Rajender Nagar Police Station under 65 DP Act and later on released.
