New Delhi, May 17 (FN Agency) In a bid to increase the green cover on Delhi roads, the state government on Tuesday formed several teams which would monitor and take steps to augment the roadside greenery in the national capital. The Environment Department of the Delhi government constituted a district-level task force for the job while it ordered the Public Works Department(PWD) to constitute a central monitoring team for monitoring the greenery on the roadside. The decision was taken in a high-level joint review meeting held at Dekhi Secretariat with officers from all concerned departments. It was chaired by Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai, officials informed.
“The meeting included representatives from the Forest Department, PWD, DSIIDC, MCD, and other road-owning agencies,” said a senior official while speaking to UNI. Orders have also been issued to all road-related agencies to provide a report in the next 15 days on how they plan to boost roadside green cover, he added. “The agencies will conduct road mapping to determine the amount and type of green cover available in each location. Agencies can select what additional action to take by categorising it into better and worse categories. There will also be a mapping of areas with little to no green cover,” the senior official said. “On the basis of such road mapping, all road-owning agencies will develop action plans. The report will be sent to the environment department in the next 15 days. As a result, a new action plan to expand Delhi’s green cover will be established,” he added. Environment Minister Gopal Rai said in a statement that several directions were given to the different departments for increasing the roadside green cover as well as for tackling the dust pollution in the city.
