Complete the beautification works of Mumbai on time: CM to BMC

Mumbai, Sep 14 (FN Agency) Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday directed Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to complete the beautification works of traffic islands, dividers, footpaths skywalks, seashores, parks in time to enhance the beauty of the city. The Chief Minister had reviewed the beautification work in a meeting held in this regard at Sahyadri guest house. Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Chahal gave a presentation about the work. Chahal said There are 2050-km long roads in the limits of Mumbai Municipal Corporation and about 990 km of roads have been concreted. And resurfacing of 450 km long roads will be started from October. Chief Minister said make good quality road work on it. The care should be taken to ensure that there would be no potholes. Total 300-km long dividers at various places in Mumbai city will be beautified.

Among them, works like planting flowers in open spaces, artistically decorating signs and signals will be completed in the next three months. It includes the whole city, western and eastern suburbs. Chief Minister suggested while beautifying the footpaths, the beautification of the busy places and the footpaths near the railway stations. About 170 km long footpaths will be illuminated and decorated. Open spaces under bridges should be utilized. These places should be kept clean. Shinde also said 25 important bridges in Mumbai will be illuminated. Total 18 skywalks also illuminated and street furniture of various sizes will be installed on important footpaths. Total 61 traffic islands will be beautified in the next three months. Three-dimensional images, artworks and sculptures will be created on seven beaches namely Juhu, Girgaon Chowpatty, Aksa, Versova, Dadar, Mahim, Gorai beach. At the same time, illuminated fountains and footpaths will be constructed in the parks. The Glow Garden concept will be implemented so that the parks can become tourist destinations.
