Centre rushes expert team after UP registers Zika case

New Delhi, Oct 25 (Representative) A high-level multidisciplinary team of experts reached Kanpur after a person in the Uttar Pradesh city was found infected with the Zika virus. According to the ministry, a 57-year-old man tested positive for the Zika virus on October 22. The health condition of the patient is not known, the ministry said. The multidisciplinary team comprised an entomologist, public health specialists and gynaecologist drawn from the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, National Center for Disease Control and Dr RML Hospital, New Delhi.

The team has been deployed by Union Health Ministry to assist the state Health authorities for control and containment measures of the Zika virus. The ministry has also directed the team to work closely with the State Health Department, take stock of the situation on the ground and assess whether the Union Health Ministry’s Action Plan for Zika Management is being implemented. The team will also recommend necessary public health interventions for the management of Zika in the state of Uttar Pradesh, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
