‘Celebrating North East’ festival kicks off in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 17 (FN Agency) The much-awaited festival ‘Celebrating North East’ kicked off at New Motibagh Club here on Friday.The three-day extravaganza will showcase North East India’s rich and vibrant fashion, textile, music, dance, and culture.Vikram Rai Medhi, festival organiser, said, “‘Celebrating North East’ is the longest-running North East India-centric festival in Delhi. The idea of organising the festival is to showcase and educate people of our rich heritage and culture through interactions, music and dance, fashion shows and more. “Medhi added, “Additionally, we also want our regional talents to be recognized and acknowledged.

And I’m glad that our designers and models have been able to grab excellent opportunities in the national and international markets. “The first day, as expected, went great with guests appreciating our initiative and participants, the organiser said. The next two days also have an interesting line-up of performances and fashion shows. I’m pumped up to see the responses, Medhi informed. The highlight of ‘Celebrating North East’ is its fashion shows and the inaugural day of the festival witnessed a fantastic line-up of crème de la crème of designers showcasing the region’s unique fabric, motifs, and weaves in traditional and contemporary designs.

Some of the popular names include Madhuri Debbarma, Agni by Dolly and Debanga, Shongmao B Khiamn, Alvina and Pallomi, Nandini Borkotoky, and Huangpi Gogoi, the organiser said.Music enthusiasts swayed to the peppy numbers performed by the popular singer-composer Zublee Baruah and her band.Celebrating North East is being organised by NEIFT, a non-profit organisation in association with Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Textile, Ministry of DoNER. The second day of the festival, on Feb 18, will have folk dances, fashion shows by the region’s top designers, and live music performance by John Oinam and band from Manipur.
