The capital city of Odisha, Bhubaneswar is fully geared to host the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on the theme-“Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat” from January 8-10. The Ministry of External affairs and the Government of Odisha are making every possible endeavour to ensure that the flagship event is a stellar success. The Pravasi Bharat Divas is celebrated every year since 2003 to mark the contribution of overseas Indian community in the growth and development of India. The objective is to connect India to our vast diaspora and bring their knowledge, expertise and skills on a common platform. The date of the event coincides with the return of Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest pravasi, to India from South Africa on January 9,1915 to lead the freedom struggle in our country. The event recognizes the socio-economic and cultural contributions of non-resident Indians and persons of Indian origin.
The President of India Droupadi Murmu and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the mega event and address the participants. It is given to understand that the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will serve as a bridge between India and its global diasporia focusing on cultural connection –strengthening cultural bonds between India and its diasporia. Economic partnership –highlighting the role of the diasporias role in remitances, investments and trade. Global Advocacy-promoting India’s soft power by showcasing its global citizenry. Policy Formulation –engaging the diaspora in discussions on development strategies. The event is expected to promote India’s image abroad and foster economic ties with other countries. It will also support philanthropic activities in India. The event also includes the presentation of Pravasi Bharatiya Sammaan Awards to 27 prominent members of the Indian diaspora who have made significant contributions to various fields.
The Government of Odisha, under the leadership of Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi has planned and programmed for the three-day mega event with a slew of spectacular and captivating experiences for both local and international delegates with its immersive portrayal of the State’s rich heritage offering a unique blend of tradition and innovation. Odisha’s vibrant artistry, diverse cultural landscape and the tourism potential of the State will be in display not only in the pavilions but also discussed and deliberated in different plenary sessions including topics like entrepreneurship, innovation, and investment opportunities. The different government departments are in unison like General Administration, Tourism, Urban Development and Public Relations to make the show worthwhile and memorable. The event will also offer immense opportunity for business networking, particularly for diaspora entrepreneurs interested in investing or collaborating in India. Cultural performances from different regions of India are often a major part of the celebration, showcasing India’s rich diversity to the international community.
As regards safety and security is concerned the police have made elaborate arrangements. 40 platoon police have been deployed and 450 officers to supervise the arrangements. A police mascot-Happy has also been released to build awareness and tourist police have also been pressed into action for the safety of the visiting delegates. Special arrangements have also been made to accommodate the international delegates not only in hotels but also in homestays so that they get home comfort and enjoy homemade food.
More than 3,500 international delegates will be attending the event. Many delegates are also likely to visit Puri to take the benediction of Lord Jagannath and also enjoy the beach festival.
Other than Bhubaneswar even Cuttack and Puri are also fully decked with different hues and colours to welcome the local and international guests aptly reflecting the State’s rich cultural heritage and growing significance in India’s development landscape.
