New Delhi, Aug 24 (Agency) Delhi on Wednesday added 97 more electronic buses to its fleet, taking the total number of e-buses in Delhi to 249. The new buses were flagged off by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who said that by the end of 2025 a total of 80 per cent buses in the capital will be electric. Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot called it a historic moment and said it was a fitting reply to those who warned that the Delhi Transport Corp (DTC) was going to shut down.”We will make DTC the best transport corporation in the world,” said Gahlot. He said that by the end of 2023, 1,500 more electric buses will be inducted in DTC, apart from the induction of 300 buses which is ongoing.
Kejriwal said that another 6,380 electric buses will be added to the fleet. “By the end of 2025, there will 10,380 buses, of which 8,380 will be electric buses. “The Chief Minister said 7,373 buses were plying on the roads of Delhi today, which was a figure higher than ever before. He said the depots will be electrified for new buses. “Just as the world is looking towards Delhi for health and education, we now have to make Delhi the transport model for the world,” he said. He also said 11 women were inducted as drivers in DTC on Tuesday for the first time. In the coming days, 200 more women would be made bus drivers.
