Dharamshala, June 16 ( Agency) The ‘Millets Food Festival’ will be a major attraction at the Kangra Valley Carnival and through this, people will get a chance to enjoy different dishes of Shree Anna (coarse grain). Deputy Commissioner Kangra District Dr Nipun Jindal told UNI that on June 16, Agriculture Minister Chandra Kumar will inaugurate the ‘Millets Food Festival’ at 6 pm in Dharamshala on Friday. Nipun Jindal said this year is being celebrated as the International Millet Year. Keeping this in view, it has been decided to organize Millets Festival in Kangra Valley Carnival from June 16 to 19. Through this, an effort will be made to educate people about the nutritional properties, production and consumption of ‘Shri Anna’ (coarse grains), telling them about coarse grains and their importance.
He said on the one hand, people will get a unique food experience and they will be able to taste different dishes made from millets and on the other hand, they will increase their knowledge about millets and get inspiration to include them in a healthy diet. Secondly, through this festival, local producers will get a great opportunity to exhibit and sell their millet products and it will also become synonymous with economic support for them. Rahul Katoch, Deputy Director, Kangra Agriculture Department told UNI that stalls of products made from Shree Anna will be set up at the Millets Food Festival. In these, people will be able to enjoy tasty and healthy dishes of coarse cereals like Ragi, Bajra, Jowar, Kuttu, Kangni and Kodo. At the same time, a mud house has also been built symbolically to revive the memories of the olden times associated with traditional dishes at the police ground where Shree Anna’s products will be displayed.
