Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 20 (Agency) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday informed the Assembly that 39 people had lost their lives and six people were still missing in the rain-related incidents in the state. Stating that the formation of twin low-pressure areas resulted in the rain related disaster, the Chief Minister said and paid homage to those who died in the state.
Expressing deep sorrow over the death of the people in rain-related incidents, he said people residing in lowlying areas are being shifted to rehabilitation centres. He said “217 houses were completely damaged and 1,393 houses partially. A total 3,851 families were accomodated in 304 relief centres so far”, Mr Vijayan said. Due to heavy rains sluice gates of several dams were opened in the state. As the MLAs were busy with rehabilitation activities and rescue operations, the assembly was adjourned till October 25.
