Agartala, Nov 4 (FN Agency) As many as 137 female armed troopers got entry along with 194 male jawans into the elite paramilitary force Tripura State Rifles (TSR) through passing out parade of newly floated 14th and 15th battalions in the 39 years glorious history of its creation. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha while addressing the new entries in TSR at KTD Singh Police Training Institute on Friday said with the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi his government has been able to explicitly demonstrate the practice of women empowerment.
Earlier, Tripura police had made entry of women contingents in various ranks over the years and now the state has at least seven women police stations and all 65 police stations have separate women desks. It was the first time that women aspirants had applied for jobs in TSR after the state government reserved a 10 percent quota for women in the force in 2020 intending to create two women-specific companies in both the newly formed TSR battalions who would be working in the same module but in a different environment, Dr Saha said. “The newly recruited women troopers have received special training on operations, tackling law and order situations and women-related crimes,” Dr Saha said appreciating the role of TSR for their dedication and exemplary contribution in combating one and half decades-long insurgency in Tripura till 2007.
Despite Tripura State Rifles being a paramilitary force of our state, the troopers have served in different states during elections and emergency situations. In the ensuing assembly elections in different states, TSR has been deployed to hold peaceful elections in Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. At present one TSR battalion is posted at Chhattisgarh for security arrangements of the coal mines while another battalion has been attached with Delhi police for securing the parliament, Supreme Court premises, and other highly sensitive installations under the disposal of Ministry of Home Affairs, CM mentioned.
