Washington, July 6 (Agency) The price tag for a US Air Force programme to replace the aging Minuteman III nuclear missiles has grown to $160 billion from $95.8 billion, Reuters reported, citing three people familiar with the matter. The report said on Friday that the Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile programme has risen by some $65 billion since 2020.
The Sentinel programme is managed by the US defense firm Northrop Grumman. According to the report, this significant increase in cost could force the Defense Department to cut funding for other modernisation plans. The Air Force did not immediately respond to Sputnik’s request for comment on this matter.
