US offers USD 1 Mln reward for info about Tim Stigal

Washington, Sep 6 (Agency) The United States is offering a reward of up to USD 1 million for information leading to the arrest of Russian national Tim Stigal, whom it suspects of partaking in transnational organised crime, the State Department said on Thursday. In June, a federal grand jury in the US state of Maryland indicted Tim Stigal’s son, Amin, for allegedly conspiring to hack and destroy Ukrainian and allied computer systems. “The Department of State is announcing a reward offer under the Transnational Organised Crime Rewards Program of up to $1 million for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction in any country of Tim Vakhaevich Stigal for participating in, conspiring to participate in, or attempting to participate in transnational organized crime,” the statement said. The US authorities accuse Stigal of engaging in multiple significant computer intrusions targeting US businesses, organising the theft of payment card data, and monetising this data for personal financial gain, according to the statement.

In January, the US Department of Justice charged Stigal with allegedly participating in four separate conspiracies to traffic in stolen payment card information belonging to the customers of at least three different corporate victims in the United States between April 2014 and March 2016. “Stigal is charged with four counts of wire fraud conspiracy, 12 counts of wire fraud, one count of computer fraud extortion, three counts of access device fraud, and three counts of aggravated identity theft,” the statement said. The US Secret Service has added Stigal to its public Most Wanted Fugitive page.
