UN open to engage with all Afghan stakeholder

Kabul, Sep 2 (FN Bureau) The UN will continue to interact with all parties, including the interim administration, and countries involved in Afghanistan, said Stephane Dujarric, the UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson, media reports said.Dujarric also urged Afghanistan’s interim government to expand its diplomatic engagement. The UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson told reporters: “In terms of the contacts with the de facto authorities, I mean, we will continue to engage with all stakeholders in Afghanistan, including the Taliban. And we’ve always done so, following our mandate, and I would say impartially and in good faith, always upholding the norms of the UN, pushing the messages of human rights and equality.” “We will continue our work as mandated by the Security Council. And I think we would urge the de facto authorities to, in fact, open more avenues for diplomatic engagement,” said Dujarric. Hamidullah Fetrat, Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, added that interaction is the solution to problems and that countries and organisations should work with the Islamic Emirate.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate told TOLOnews: “Engagement is the only way that plays an important role in resolving challenges and expanding relations. Countries and international organisations should engage positively with the Islamic Emirate.” A lot of political commentators emphasise the importance of the Islamic Emirate’s global engagement. They feel that applying pressure will not resolve the issues between the interim government and the international community. Naser Shafiq, a political analyst, said: “It is necessary for us to establish engagement with the international community by ensuring legitimate rights, which are considered among the values of the global community. “This comes after more than three years since the Islamic Emirate regained power in Afghanistan, and no country has recognised the interim government. However, some countries continue to maintain embassies and political representatives in Afghanistan.
