Dhaka, Oct 24 (FN Agency) Bangladesh’s State Minister for Religious Affairs Md. Faridul Haque Khan has said that people must stand up against those destroying communal harmony. Destroyers of communal harmony are the enemies of the country and the people. Today, anti-independence forces are trying to fan communal violence in the country in order to hamper the success of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government.
The state minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting on the occasion of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary and golden jubilee of independence held at Guthail High School and College ground in Islampur upazila of Jamalpur district on Saturday. Quoting from the Holy Quran and Hadith, the minister said that in Islam sedition is considered more serious crime than murder. He said Muslims need to know how the Prophet Muhammad treated the followers of other religions. In this context, the minister mentioned the Medina Charter, the conquest of Mecca and the way neighbors should be treated. He said that Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh is not a communal Bangladesh. In recent times, houses of the Hindu community have been raided in various parts of the country in an attempt to quell communal riots. The perpetrators will have to face tough and exemplary punishment, he said.
