SL receives $160 mn aid from WB: PM

By Duruthu Edirimuni Chandrasekera Colombo, May 18 (Agency) Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe told the Parliament on Wednesday that $160 million assistance was received from the World Bank and discussions are underway to consider if those funds could be used to purchase fuel for the island nation hit by a chronic fuel crisis. According to analysts, this will somewhat manage the situation in the country for at least two months. Meanwhile, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (Ceypetco) has informed the public that the supply of petrol will be limited on Wednesday and the public was instructed to not patronise queues at petrol stations to buy petrol, except for an emergency.

The petroleum distributor further stated that the distribution of petrol will resume as usual from May 19. Meanwhile, liquefied petroleum gas distributor, Litro said that it was unable to unload the gas due to inclement weather, and therefore the 2,800 metric tons of gas distributions will experience delays. Chairman of Litro, Engineer Vijitha Herath urged the consumers not to wait in queues on Wednesday and that the distribution will be delayed by about three days.
