Tokyo, Aug 8 (Agency) A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck on Thursday off the southeastern coast of Japan’s Kyushu island, prompting authorities to issue tsunami advisories, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.The earthquake occurred at 4:43 p.m. local time (07:43 GMT) in the Hyuga Nada area at a depth of 30 kilometers (18.6 miles). Up to 5.0-magnitude aftershocks were felt in the prefectures of Miyazaki and Kagoshima.
Japanese authorities issued tsunami advisories for the coastal areas of Kyushu Island, as well as the western and southern coasts of Shikoku Island. Tsunami with the height of waves of up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) have already reached Miyazaki Prefecture.Japanese media reported that a high-speed train was suspended following the earthquake. An emergency headquarters was reportedly set up at Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s office after the quake hit.Japanese media also reported no disruptions in the operation of The Sendai Nuclear Power Plant after the powerful earthquake off Kyushu Island.
