Qatar Foreign Minister Al Thani in Kabul, meets with Taliban leadership

Kabul, Sep 12 (Agency) Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani arrived in Kabul on Sunday and met with the Taliban leadership and new cabinet members, including caretaker Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund. A spokesman for the Taliban’s political office, Mohammad Naeem, said that the head of the Islamic Emirate, Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, met with Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani at the Presidential Palace.

Naeem added that humanitarian assistance, Afghanistan’s future economic development and international interactions with the Islamic Emirate were discussed during the meeting. Al Thani has called for maintaining good relations with Afghanistan and attracting international assistance, according to news reports. “The meeting focused on bilateral relations, humanitarian assistance, economic development and interaction with the world,” said Suhail Shaheen, a spokesman of the Taliban, adding: “The Doha agreement was a landmark achievement, all sides should adhere to its implementation.” According to Shaheen, Al-Thani also reiterated his willingness to boost bilateral relations, Tolo News reported. Separately, Al-Thani met with Abdullah Abdullah, head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, and former president Hamid Karzai. Abdullah and Karzai talked about the latest developments in Afghanistan and the formation of an inclusive government in their meeting with Al-Thani.
