Pakistan, Bangladesh agree to collaborate closely for South Asia development

Islamabad, Aug 31 (FN Agency) Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed to collaborate closely for the progress and prosperity of their populations, as stated in a press release by the prime minister’s office. Pakistan’s government expressed solidarity with Bangladesh on August 7 following the fall of Hasina Wajid’s government on August 5 amid widespread protests, Associated Press of Pakistan reported. She was replaced by Nobel laureate Md Yunus, who is heading an interim government facing the monumental task of charting democratic reforms ahead of expected new election, the report said. Last week, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached out to the interim government of Bangladesh, extending an offer of aid to address the catastrophic impacts of recent floods.

According to media reports, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and PM Shehbaz on Friday agreed that enhanced regional cooperation could significantly improve the lives of South Asian people.“While congratulating him on his new role, I lauded his contribution towards socio-economic development of his country and expressed my heartfelt sympathies over the devastating recent floods in Bangladesh,” the PM wrote on the X platform. “Noting the deep-rooted bonds of history, faith and culture between Pakistan and Bangladesh , we expressed our willingness to forge closer bilateral cooperation,” Shehbaz posted. During sheikh Hasina’s tenure, ties between Islamabad and Dhaka remained strained due to historical grievances from the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation war, the reports said.
