Yangon, June 14 (Agency) Once a thriving emerging economy Myanmar, now struggling amid a civil war and shrinking options, has managed to export over 180,000 tons of rice and broken rice in the first two months of the fiscal year 2024-25, earning over 91 million US dollars. The Myanmar Rice Federation reported on Thursday said that the Southasian nation exported to over 20 countries including Indonesia, the Philippines, China, Poland, Malaysia, Belgium, the Netherlands and Vietnam.
In April, the country exported 111,862 tons of rice and broken rice, with 111,462 tons through overseas trade and 400 tons through border trade. In May, 71,279 tons of rice and broken rice were exported, including 70,751 tons through overseas trade and 528 tons through border trade. In the 2023-24 fiscal year, Myanmar exported over 1.6 million tons of rice and broken rice, earning over 845 million dollars, according to the federation.
