Modi-Draghi discuss strengthening trade, investment ties in first in-person meeting

Rome/New Delhi, Oct 29 (FN Bureau) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held bilateral talks with his Italian counterpart Mario Draghi in their first in-person meeting, during which they reviewed the Action Plan of India-Italy bilateral partnership and reiterated the commitment to further expanding trade and investment linkages. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi was received by Prime Minister Draghi as he arrived at the Palazzo Chigi, the seat of the Italian government. Both leaders inspected the guard of honour before proceeding for delegation level talks. Prime Minister Modi said the two leaders discussed about ways to strengthen the friendship between their two countries and to work towards a more environment friendly planet. In tweets, including in Italian, the Prime Minister said: “Glad to have met PM Mario Draghi in Rome. We talked about ways to strengthen the friendship between India and Italy. There is great potential to further scale up economic linkages, cultural cooperation and for us to work together towards a more environment friendly planet.” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted on the meeting “Synergising the India-Italy Partnership!

Italy is the G20 president.
