Malala Yousafzai ties knot in small ceremony at Birmingham home

Birmingham, Nov 10 (Agency) Nobel laureate and education activist Malala Yousafzai got married in a small ceremony in Birmingham. Taking to Twitter, the acitivist wrote, “Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.” She has also posted photos from the nikkah ceremony held on Tuesday wherein she is seen alongside her husband Asser and her parents. According to Geo TV, Malala, on her D-Day, wore a melon-pink outfit adorned with gold embroidery. Her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, tweeted, “It is beyond words. Toor Pekai and I are overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. Alhamdulillah.”

Asser is the general manager high performance at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Following the announcement, congratulations poured in. In a tweet PPP leader Aseefa Bhutto Zardari said, “May your journey be blessed at every turn. Sending you love & duas.” Yousafzai had survived a Pakistani Taliban assassination attempt when she was 15 years old. She was shot in her head for supporting girls’ right to education in Mingora, Swat Valley in northern Pakistan. She was then shifted to Birmingham and later graduated from Oxford University. Since then, she became a global figure promoting education for girls. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17 for her work and struggle in promoting education for children.
