Colombo, Dec 6 (Agency) India is going to help Sri Lanka boost its domestic milk production.In a bid to prepare a short, medium and long-term plan to increase milk production and lessen the reliance on imported milk powder, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed a committee to work with a multidisciplinary team of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) of India. The NDDB and India’s Amul Milk Company have taken steps to provide the necessary technical support for the production of liquid milk in Sri Lanka, the Daily FT newspaper reported on Tuesday.

A preliminary discussion was held in this regard at the Presidential Secretariat under the Chairmanship of President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake. It was discussed at length about doubling local milk production by implementing short and medium-term plans and making Sri Lanka self-sufficient in milk in the long run through a targeted programme.
