Seoul, Dec 12 (FN Bureau) South Korean auto giant Hyundai Motor Group has announced a partnership with Google to expand its automotive software ecosystem and provide drivers with next-generation navigation and infotainment experiences. “Hyundai Motor Group (the Group) is expanding its partnership with Google to deliver next-generation navigation and infotainment experiences,” the automaker said in a statement on Wednesday. As part of the collaboration, Hyundai will integrate Google’s Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) into its vehicles and use Google’s Places API for enhanced geolocation services, the statement said. The API offers detailed information on approximately 250 million locations worldwide, including business hours, contact details, and user reviews.
Instead of incorporating the full Google Maps platform, Hyundai will use this data to refine the accuracy and functionality of its navigation systems, according to company representatives. “Our partnership with Google, which helps people find a lot of useful information around the world, will serve as an opportunity for Hyundai Motor Group, broadening our coverage of technology in the mobility market and providing greater values to customers,” said Song Chang Hyeon, president and head of Hyundai Motor Group’s advanced vehicle platform division. The advanced navigation features will debut in Kia vehicles in North America, with plans to expand to Hyundai and Genesis models in other global markets. Hyundai Motor and Kia are part of the Hyundai Motor Group.
