Fuel shortage to end soon in SL: Minister

Colombo, May 16 (Agency) Fuel will be available in adequate quantities in Sri Lanka when three ships carrying fuel are scheduled to arrive here in the coming weeks under the Indian Credit Line, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said in remarks published on Monday. The Daily Mirror quoted Wijesekara as saying in a tweet that the public should not queue up or top up over the next three days until the supplying of adequate fuel to all 1,190 fuel stations in the country was completed.

“With the arrival of the diesel cargo yesterday (Sunday) and three vessels to reach in the next two weeks under the Indian credit line, adequate fuel would be made available,” he said. “Hence, the public are requested not to queue up or engage in panic filling in the next three days until the supply would be made to 1,190 fuel stations countrywide.” The unprecedented economic crisis that has hit Sri Lanka has led to widespread shortages of essential commodities including food, fuel and medicines.
