Yangon, Dec 23 (FN Agency) Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who is on a visit to Myanmar, met and heard the views of a cross-section of representatives from the media, academia and think-tanks on India-Myanmar relations and the situation in Myanmar. He also met with select Ambassadors in Myanmar on issues of mutual interest. The Foreign Secretary also inaugurated the India Centre at the former LIC building in Yangon. The renovated building will help promote Indian culture, including performing arts, languages and yoga. In a series of tweets, the Indian Embassy in Yangon tweeted: “Foreign Secretary @harshvshringla exchanged views with select Ambassadors in Myanmar on issues of mutual interest.”

The renovated building will help promote Indian culture, including performing arts, languages and yoga. “The center also houses a business hub with exhibition hall and auditorium dedicated to trade and investment promotion.” Earlier, the Foreign Secretary, who is on a two-day working visit to Myanmar, called on junta chief General Min Aung Hlaing and other senior representatives and held meetings with members of civil society and political parties, including the National League for Democracy, the party of detained leader Aung San Suu Kyi. During his meetings, Foreign Secretary Shringla emphasized India’s interest in seeing Myanmar’s return to democracy at the earliest; the release of detainees and prisoners; resolution of issues through dialogue; and complete cessation of all violence.
