Suva, Nov 22 (Bureau) An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 jolted 98 km East of Port-Olry, Vanuatu, at 15:47 local time (0447 GMT) on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said. The epicenter, with a depth of 22.5 km, was determined to be at 14.985 degrees south latitude and 167.983 degrees east longitude.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not immediately issue a tsunami warning based on the quake.There was no immediate report of casualty or damage.Pacific island countries such as Fiji, Tonga and Vanuatu lie on the so-called Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones where continental plates collide producing frequent seismic activities.
