New Delhi, May 17 (FN Agency) The Hindi version of filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ will premiere digitally exclusively on BookMyShow Stream, starting May 20. BookMyShow Stream is a video-on-demand (TVOD) platform from the house of BookMyShow, an online ticketing platform. After a marvellous run at cinemas across the country, BookMyShow Stream brings maverick Director SS Rajamouli-helmed blockbuster RRR (Hindi) to its platform with pre-bookings now live across both ‘rent’ and ‘buy’ options starting Rs 349. RRR (Hindi) will be exclusively available on BookMyShow Stream from May 20 for a limited period, following which the Jr NTR and Ram Charan-starrer will be available across all its languages (Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada) for cinephiles to stream on the platform from June 2. Earlier this month, yet another blockbuster, Gangubai Kathiawadi (Hindi) starring Alia Bhatt and helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali made its entry into the pay-per-view ecosystem on BookMyShow Stream. Following close on its heels, the arrival of the massive blockbuster of 2022, RRR (Hindi)’s exclusive debut on BookMyShow Stream brings to the fore the changing tides of movie consumption and distribution as Indian producers led by Jayantilal Gada of PEN India jump onto the TVOD bandwagon, recognising the immense potential that this nascent, yet strong category holds and leveraging this window for higher revenue generation as well as to reach more audiences across the length and breadth of the country.
Speaking on this, Ashish Saksena, COO-Cinemas, BookMyShow, said, “RRR has proven to be a mammoth giant creating a stir in the Indian cinema landscape and leaving audiences across the country in a frenzy. “After a stupendous theatrical success, crossing a whopping 13 million tickets sold on BookMyShow for the film, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that RRR (Hindi) will make an exclusive appearance on BookMyShow Stream on May 20 for fans that missed it in the theatres or those keen on a second watch, right from the comfort of their homes. “The excitement around and interest for the film continue to peak with the initial few hours of the pre-booking already off to a momentous start. This is a testament to the sheer grandeur, iconic characters, creative effect and immersive storyline of the movie which has opened the doors for pan-India cross cultural adoption. “With movies like RRR and Gangubai Kathiwadi making their way to BookMyShow Stream, we are confident that more large-scale, leading Indian studios and producers will warm up to the TVOD model and utilise this category to the economic potential that it is capable of generating. “It is only a matter of time before TVOD finds itself to be sitting amongst the compelling forms of cinema consumption post a theatrical run for films in India,” he added.
