New Delhi, Mar 13 (Bureau) The song “Naatu Naatu” in RRR film, won the Best Original Song award at the 95th Academy Awards, making it the first song from an Indian film, as well as the first from an Asian film, to win in this category. Composer MM Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose received the award for the song sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, son of Keeravani. Bhairava has sung for Telugu films such as ‘Baahubali’, ‘Dear Comrade’ (2019) and ‘Jersey’ (2019) while Rahul started as an independent singer before he was noticed by Keeravani, and he went on to sing for films like ‘Dammu’, ‘Eega’ and ‘Maryada Ramanna’. He has singing credits in over 50 films to date.
A 2022 Indian Telugu-language epic action drama film directed by S. S. Rajamouli, who co-wrote the film with V. Vijayendra Prasad, RRR film made on a budget of Rs 550 crore (US$72 million) and it is the most expensive Indian film to date. Produced by D. V. V. Danayya of DVV Entertainment, the film grossed Rs 1,200 crore (US$150 million) – Rs 1,258 crore (US$160 million) worldwide, setting several box office records for an Indian film. Film stars N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris, the RRR film became the third Indian film and first Telugu film to receive nominations at the Golden Globe Awards, including Best Foreign Language Film, and won Best Original Song for ‘Naatu Naatu’, making it the first Asian as well as the Indian nomination to win the award. RRR received universal praise for Rajamouli’s direction, writing, performances (particularly Rama Rao and Charan), soundtrack, action sequences, cinematography and visual effects. The film was considered one of the ten best films of the year by the National Board of Review making it only the second non-English language film ever to make it to the list. RRR also won the Best Foreign Language Film and the Best Song award at the 28th Critics’ Choice Awards. Film Producer Danayya said “It feels great.

In a message, Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan while congratulated the RRR team on winning the prestigious Oscar Award in Best Original Song ategory for the Naatu Naatu song, said it was a proud moment for Indian cinema. Dr. Soundararajan said that the song, Naatu Naatu, penned by noted lyricist Chandra Bose and composed by renowned musician MM Keera Vaani reflected the true power of the native Telugu lyrics and music. In another message, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) delighted that the famous ‘ Naatu Naatu ‘ song from RRR’ Telugu movie, clinched the best Original Song Award at the prestigious Oscar awards programme. The words used in the Oscar-winning Naatu Naatu song reflected the culture of Telangana, interest of the Telugu people and the diversity of public life, the CM said. With the winning of Oscar award, KCR said that the Telugu film industry, which has been developing day by day in Hyderabad as the center of Telangana, spread its glory across the world.
The Chief Minister said that this award is a source of pride not only for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, but also for Telugu and Dravidian languages and the entire country. He expressed happiness that today is a festival day for Telugu film audience all over the world and the Telangana government’s efforts for the growth of the Telugu film industry paid off. On this occasion, the Chief Minister recalled that the Telangana state government is supporting the development and expansion of the Telugu film industry and extended special incentives to the Telugu film industry, which faced difficulties during the Corona period. He wished that the Telugu film industry will continue the same trend in the future with the spirit of Oscar award and more films with diverse stories and reflecting the lives of the people will be produced.
