New Delhi, Sep 3 (FN Bureau) Music composer Pyarelal Sharma, who formed half of the legendary music composer team of Laxmikant-Pyarelal which captivated the audiences with evergreen music, will turn 82 on Tuesday.Born on September 3, 1940, Pyarelal dreamt of becoming a musician from a young age. Initially he took training under Pandit Ramprasad Sharma and later reached Goa and learnt violin from Anthony Gonsalves. He started playing the violin at Ranjit studio in order to support his family financially. Then one day Pyarelal got an opportunity to participate in Lata Mangeshkar’s concert where musician Laxmikant was already playing the mandolin.Lata Mangeshkar understood the potential of the duo and recommended they assist composers Shankar Jaikisan, SD Burman and C Ramchandra . Afterwards Laxmikant and Pyarelal formed a partnership and started their cine careers as assistants for music composers Kalyan Ji and Anand Ji. As an assistant, Pyarelal worked in many films including, ‘Madaari’, ‘Satta Bazaar’ , ‘ Chhaliya’ , and ‘ Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’. In the meantime he met Bhojpuri movie producer K.Parvez ,who proposed the pair compose music for four films. However, they were not able work in any of the films.
Laxmikant and Pyarelal’s career peaked with the success of iconic movie ‘Parasmani’ produced and directed by Babu Bhai Mistry. The film’s success adorned with excellent music, songs and acting, solidified Laxmikant-Pyarelal as music composers in Bollywood . It was also rumoured the duo gave money from their pockets to get Lata Mangeshkar render a song in the film. The pair never had to look back after the grand success of ‘Parasmani’. The year 1977 marked a milestone in the film career of Laxmikant-Pyarelal with the release of ‘ Amar Akbar Anthony’. Though all the songs of the film were mesmering , the song ‘Humko Tumse Ho Gaya Hai Pyaar ‘ remains a priceless treasure. Renowned playback singers Lata, Mohammed Rafi, Mukesh and Kishore Kumar came together in a move for the first and last time. Pyarelal also paid tribute to his music teacher Anthony Gonsalves through the song ‘My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves’.Mohammed Rafi was he favorite music composer of Laxmikant – Pyarelal. After the success of ‘Parasmani’ the duo of Laxmikant-Pyarelal and Rafi Saheb captivated the audiences with melodious songs. They paid tribute to Mohammed Rafi through their song,’ Na Fankaar Tujhsa Tere Baad Aaya Mohammed Rafi Tu Bada Yaad Aaya’ in the 1990 released ‘Krodh’. Laxmikant-Pyarelal received filmfare awards seven times. Since the death of Laxmikant in 1998, Pyarelal has stopped composing music.
