Kolkata, Dec 14 (Agency) Ahead of prestigious Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections, the city police have arrested a youth for possessing cash worth about Rs 1 crore from Park Street area, official sources said on Tuesday. The Special Task Force of Kolkata Police following an input laid a trap at busy Park Street on Monday evening and arrested 27-year-old Pritam Ghosh with hard currencies of Rs 1 crore.
Since he could not give the source of the money, police took him into their custody. The accused would be produced to the Bankshall Court on Tuesday. The accused is the resident of Maheshtala in south Kolkata. The investigation was on to determine the source of the seized money, which could be from Hawala or may be for the elections purposes. The KMC poll for the 144-ward is slated for December 19.
