Two held for stealing liquor bottles

Puducherry, Jun 13 (Agency) Police on Saturday arrested two persons on charges of stealing liquor bottles from a liquor shop here. According to police, a liquor shop on Kamaraj Salai at Saram was closed for nearly 40 days following lockdown and was opened last week after relaxations were given while extending the lockdown. When the owner of the shop Anandaraj took stock two days back, he noticed a shortage of 21 boxes of quarter bottles. Later, he found that miscreants gained entry into the shop by making a hole on the backside wall of the shop and after stealing the bottles, they pasted the hole with cement and sand which cannot be identified on the first look.

Anandaraj lodged a complaint with the Orleanpet police who registered a case and started investigation. Police swung into action and collected information on who sold liquor in black during the lockdown in the area, behind the shop, and got information that Vivekanandan and Manikandan sold the liquor most. Police took both of them into custody and on interrogation, they confessed of entering into the shop and stealing the bottles. Police recovered liquor bottles worth Rs.50,000 from their possession. Both were arrested, presented them by police in the local court and were lodged in the Central prison here.
