Telangana CID arrests 2 white collar offenders in Kerala

Hyderabad, April 25 (FN Agency) A team from Telangana CID have arrested two white collar offenders, who were on the run for 29 years, in Ernakulam of Kerala in connection with a cheating case. According to a police release here on Tuesday, T.J. John, a resident of Annaparru in Trivandrum, along with T.J. Mathew and M.M. Tommy had founded M/s Travancore Finance and Leasing Company in Hyderabad. The firm was registered by the Registrar of Firms, A.P., Hyderabad on September 1,1986. The firm having ten partners, including M.M. Tommy, Ms Sherley Tommy, Ms Mary Mathew, T.J. John, Benney Pal, G.V. Seleven, C.J. Joseph, K. Raman Pillay, Joseph and Rajan John had advertised in newspapers and distributed brochures inviting deposits from the public by promising lucrative and exorbitant rates of interest. They collected deposits amounting to Rs 12,54,915, out of which Rs.94,921 was refunded, leaving a balance of Rs.11,57,994, besides interest.

The accused violated the rules, falsified entries, siphoned out the amount, criminally misappropriated, and did not pay the dues to the depositors, thereby cheating them. The CID investigated the case in Cr.No.97/1987 U/s 406, 409, 419,120 (B) IPC of CCS PS, Hyd. City, and filed a chargesheet in the court. On January 29,1994, M.M. Tommy, Ms Sherley Tommy, and C.J. Joseph were arrested and sent to judicial custody. However, after obtaining bail, they did not attend the court, and NBWs were issued against them. They had been absconding since 1994. The accused Ms. Sherley Tommy (70), and C.J. Joseph (67), both residents of Ernakulam were apprehended by the CID NBW team at Ernakulam and produced before the court. The team consisting of J.Lingaswamy, Inspector of Police, D. Ramesh, SI of Police, D.Narsaiah HC, Anand PC and WPC Anitha went to Ernakulam an executed the NBWs against the accused, and brought them to Hyderabad.
