SEB officials seize gold, silver worth Rs 5 cr in AP

Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh), March 6 (FN Agency) Special Enforcement Bureau officials seized gold and silver worth over 5 crore and also Rs 90 lakh cash when it is being transported in a private bus without valid documents at Panchalingala check post in this district on Sunday. The SEB officials told media that while they were conducting checking of vehicles at the check post on Saturday night, they found five persons carrying gold jewellery weighing 8.250 kgs and silver bricks weighing 28.5 kgs.

The officials also found Rs 90 lakh cash in a suitcase. The gold, silver and cash concealed in a suitcase was being transported to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu from Hyderabad illegally without any valid documents. The police held Devaraj of Salem town in Tamil Nadu, Selvaraj, Kumar Melu, Murugehan and Venkatesh belonging to Coimbatore city. They told the police that they supply gold jewellery to its showrooms on contract basis. But they failed to present relevant documents for the transportation of gold, silver and cash, SEB officials said.
