SC stays arrest of Subrata Roy

New Delhi, May 13 (Bureau) The Supreme Court on Friday stayed a Patna High Court order directing the arrest of Sahara India chief Subrata Roy and also stayed further proceedings against him. The Patna High Court order was passed on an investors’ plea on May 12. Roy challenged in in the apex court. A Supreme Court Bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar passed the order on Friday.

“We stay the Patna High Court order. We grant him relief at this stage,” the Bench said. The Patna High Court had earlier issued an arrest warrant against Roy for not being present in the court despite its clear instructions. The High Court passed the order after hearing over 2,000 cases related to alleged fraud by Sahara India. The company was accused of not returning money taken from thousands of investors.
