Sangli (Maharashtra), Jan 31 (Bureau) The police and the Forest Department on Monday seized 983 kg of red sandalwood valued at Rs 2.45 crore from a vehicle and arrested its driver on the Miraj-Kolhapur road in Sangli district in Maharashtra.
Getting a tip that the sandalwood was coming from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in a big way, a team headed by Superintendent of Police Dixit Gedam and his deputy Ashok Virkar intercepted the vehicle. The cargo was found hidden under fruit boxes. The arrested driver was identified as Yasin Inayatulla, a resident of Anekak in Bangalore district.
