Bhubaneswar, Mar 2 (FN Representative) Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday seized 32 kg gold ornaments from the Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Konark express from the Railway station. The estimated value of the seized gold is over Rs 12 crore. Police detained four people in connection with the incident and interrogated them.
As part of their interrogation, the accused admitted that they were employees of a jewellery shop in Mumbai and were on their way to deliver ornaments to other jewellery shops in the city. Police sources report that they failed to provide valid documentation supporting their possession of gold. Sources said the officials of Income Tax department and GST are informed about the seizure and they are looking into it.
