New Delhi, Feb 11 (FN Agency) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested six people, including the Principal Chief Material Manager posted at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Indian Railway in West Bengal, in an alleged bribery case. The accused were identified as Ravi Shekhar Sinha (Principal Chief Material Manager), Sonu Arora and Rajan Gupta (both directors of a private company), Parveen Vyas (representative of said Director), Pawan Kumar Singh and Vinod Kumar (employees of said representative). A case was registered against Principal Chief Material Manager and five others in alleged gratification charges, said a CBI spokesperson. He further said that two Directors of a private company based at Chandigarh, being approved vendor of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, were allegedly in conspiracy with different senior officers of Railways for obtaining undue favour from them in the award of contract and passing of bills, by paying them alleged gratification.
The accused allegedly engaged a person of another company as representative of their company to negotiate with the senior Railway officers, including the Principal CMM, for obtaining undue favour for their company, the spokesperson. He said the accused allegedly persuaded the Principal CMM for enhancing the order quantity of a contract earlier awarded. The public servant enhanced the order quantity in the supply order and allegedly demanded the bribe to be delivered to him through the representative. The Director of a private company handed over an amount to an employee of a representative and gave directions to deliver Rs 1.80 lakh to a public servant for showing favour to the company, he added. Both the arrested Directors of the private company were produced before the Special Judge of CBI in Chandigarh and were remanded to three-day Police Custody. Other four accused were produced in the Courts and granted transit remand for further production before the Court in Chandigarh, said the CBI spokesperson.
