Police recovered 1.6 kg of heroin in Hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur, May 19 (Agency) In a major crackdown, the District Police have apprehended three persons including a woman with possession of 1.6 kg Heroin along with Rs 50 lakh drug money. The police also recovered 580 gm Opium, 560 gm Gold and seized one swift car used for money deals from them. Disclosing this here today, SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said that a police party on Tuesday stopped a car near Tanda Chowk for checking. On suspicion, the police party checked the pockets of a man and found 70-gram heroin from him and Rs. 50,000 from the pocket of another youth. They have been identified as Pushpinder Singh, alias Tinku, and Amit Choudhary, both from the same area. During preliminary investigation, it came to fore that both accused were indulged in drug peddling and they procured the drugs from Jasvir Singh alias Gajju and his accomplice Jagroop Kaur, who was indulged in the drug peddling with him. Navjot Singh Mahal informed that acting swiftly on the inputs of preliminary investigation a team led by SP (D) Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu was constituted to get into the bottom of the drug lords and smuggling. The police party raided the house of Jasvir Singh alias Gajju at Green Avenue, Jandiala, Amritsar.

Jagrup Kaur, who lives with Jasvir Singh and works with him in smuggling illicit drugs, was apprehended by the police party with 100gm heroin while Jasvir Singh managed to flee. During a search of the house police party also recovered 1 kg 480 gm heroin, 580-gram Opium, 560 gm gold, and drug money to the tune of Rs. 49,48,700. Police parties are conducting a rigorous search for the absconding accused Jasvir Singh. SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said that the entire matter is being investigated thoroughly and action is being initiated to forfeit and attach the property earned from drug money by drug smugglers, the same process will be followed in this case u/s 68F NDPS Act at the earliest. He also gave a stern message to drug smugglers of the area that police is behind them and no one indulged in such wrongful act against society and nation will be spared by the police. He also told that two cases under the NDPS act had already been registered against Gajju in Mohali while five cases were already registered against Pushpinder in Hoshiarpur.
