New Delhi, June 9 (Bureau) Delhi Police said on Thursday that it has registered two FIRs over posting and sharing messages on social media that leads to societal divide and poses danger to public tranquility.The cases have been filed under sections 153, 295 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code.One case has been registered against now suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, whose remarks critical of Prophet Mohammad triggered outrage in the Islamic world and forced the BJP to suspend Sharma and sack another party spokesperson.Another FIR has been registered against multiple social media entities.
The name of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, a MP, is in the FIR, said police.Notices will be sent to the social media intermediaries for details, an officer said.”Delhi Police appeals to everyone to desist from posting anything that may disrupt social and community harmony,” it said in a tweet.Meanwhile, several AIMIM supporters gathered outside the Parliament Street police station here and staged a protest but police and paramilitary personnel detained and removed them.
